The Bus Industry Safety Council is your forum to address the latest safety and compliance topics that affect motorcoach operations.
Register:
All Bus Operators use the “Buyer Representative” registration option, all Suppliers and Vendors use the “Seller Representative” registration option. Government Employees should self-select that option. Select the BISC meeting or BusMARC meeting or BusWorld meeting as activities if you.plan to attend those sessions, to ensure that we get accurate counts, have enough materials, and can ensure comfortable distancing for all participants.

BusWorld Session Effective and Efficient Cleaning and Sanitizing Buses and Coaches (Joint Session with BISC & BusMARC) Panel: Jan Deman, Dominic Manuele, Marcus Möseler, Ryan Baker, David Rolls Moderated: Richard Tackett, BusRide Description: As people start traveling again, passengers want to know that their mode of transportation is clean and sanitized to help stop the spread of viruses. A recent Busworld Foundation research program has indicated the absolute need for effective air purification and sanitization of surfaces, in addition to the existing ventilation systems. In this seminar, different techniques and technologies for air purification and sanitization of surfaces will be presented. They are not only applicable in new vehicles but can be retrofitted in today's fleet. You will learn sanitization strategies, methods and products that can be added to present operations. Come and listen to best practices, learn how to implement necessary hygienic measures, and how to increase ridership by telling your passengers about it. |

MOTORCOACH INNOVATIONS SESSION TRACK #3005: Drug & Alcohol Testing: Reasonable Suspicion Speaker: Dale Tidwell, JJ Keller Description: DOT Reasonable Suspicion Training is required under federal law and mandates that certain employers involved in transportation-related fields train their supervisors in identifying the signs and symptoms of drug and alcohol use and abuse. Commercial motor vehicle operators, airlines, railways, and transit organizations are among those commonly required to train their supervisors in reasonable suspicion determinations. With the broadened use of the FMCSA Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse, an increase in the number of states legalizing marijuana, and commercialized CBD use, Transportation supervisors have more on their plate to keep track of than ever. |

But what does that look like in a world where buses have been sitting idle for 90-days or more? Fleet management software systems that ensure vehicle efficiency, compliance, maintenance and safety are built to mainly monitor a fleet that is in motion – not one that is grounded. As the nation reopens from the coronavirus lock down, fleets need to move forward with a fresh outlook and new focus on maintenance standards. MOTORCOACH REGULATORY & COMPLIANCE SESSION TRACK #3008: FMCSA Update Speaker: Loretta Bitner, FMCSA Description: In this session, get a sense of what new regulations the Agency has put in place for 2022 and get an opportunity to directly address our regulators as they set out the top priorities for the Agency in the coming year. So many items to review, from the implementation of the Electronic Logging Devices, the evolution of the lease and interchange rule to the emergence of autonomous vehicles. Stay up to date on the future direction of our industry’s enforcement. |

MOTORCOACH MAINTENANCE & OPERATIONS SESSION TRACK BusMARC Marketplace Floor Byte Speaker: TEMSA Description: You're happily driving along when suddenly your Check Engine light comes on or the dash display lights up with an error message. Panic sets in. Is the engine going to blow up or is this just an annoying code that will go away? Many of the latest systems have the ability to display Diagnostic Trouble Codes, or DTCs. If not immediately available, a code reader can plug into the diagnostic port to retrieve them. Heavy duty diesel engines now can communicate all kinds of useful information, much of which also can be used to perform diagnostics or even modify/improve performance en route. The latest transmissions can display fault codes via the transmission shift control panel. This J1939 buss is used by the chassis manufacturer and also interfaces with various chassis elements, such as antilock braking systems, traction control, headlights and other accessories. Train current drivers and mechanics to be mentors. #4002: OSHA Overview: Regular Reporting and Future Compliance Speaker: Jeff Petrunak, Daecher Consulting Group Description: Workplace safety and OSHA regulatory compliance are aspects of the typical safety program that, quite frankly, need to get more focus in the transportation industry. Because most of the focus of industry safety programs are geared towards over-the-road safety, fleet maintenance, and driver management, companies often fall short in the areas of workplace safety and OSHA compliance, increasing the chance of employee injuries and exposing themselves to possible enforcement fines. In this session, we will focus on OSHA compliance and measures to help prevent injuries in the workplace. We will review OSHA standards that are applicable to the transportation industry and program development to meet these standards. We will identify workplace safety hazards and serious OSHA violations commonly found in maintenance garage settings. We will discuss OSHA recordkeeping and reporting requirements including requirements as it relates to COVID-19. And we will examine several case studies in the transportation industry as they relate to OSHA enforcement. |

MOTORCOACH REGULATORY & COMPLIANCE SESSION TRACK #4007: The Dangers of Speeding and How to Prevent it Speaker: Gary Catapano, MAGTEC Products Inc. & Dr. Judy Agnew, Aubrey Daniels International Description: Speeding is one of the most deadly behaviors fleet operators and managers must contend with. It’s also one of the most difficult behaviors to change and prevent. The reason for this is deeply rooted in behavioral psychology and consequence history. In this session, you’ll learn how these consequences are the predominate influence in speeding. We’ll examine what can be done to change this – including aligning your organizational consequences and culture. We’ll use real-world data to look at how the COVID-19 pandemic has influenced operating speeds and how operating above the speed limit decreases crash survivability.
