WASHINGTON, May 29 – A new study released today by the Travel Industry Association (TIA) revealed that Americans took 41 million fewer airline flights over the past 12 months because of “immense frustration” with the “air travel process,” such as cancellations, delays and inefficient security screening.
The study, which TIA characterized as the “first of its kind,” said the data shows evidence of “travelers changing behaviors.” The study was conducted by the respected bipartisan polling firms of Peter D. Hart Research Associates and The Winston Group.
“The findings of this study shouldn't lead to the blame game, but should rather serve as a reminder to travelers that they have options other than flying, such as motorcoaches,” said American Bus Association President & CEO Peter J. Pantuso. “For long-distance travel, flying still has obvious advantages. But for shorter trips, particularly those of 200-400 miles, consumers have alternatives to airline travel that are less costly, and which can be time-competitive and comparatively free of many airport headaches.”
Motorcoaches offer upscale amenities including upholstered or leather seating, personal climate control, audio and visual entertainment options, and excellent value for the consumer's travel dollar -- without any middle seats.
"Consumers don't have to be resigned to the idea that traveling is an automatic source of stress," Pantuso added. "Travelers still have the power of choice, even if flying can make them feel powerless. They can choose to take their business to a competitor. Give motorcoaches a chance to earn your business through old-fashioned customer service."
The American Bus Association is the trade organization of the intercity bus industry with more than 1000 motorcoach owner and tour company members in the United States and Canada. Its members operate charter, tour, regular route, airport express, special operations and contract services. Another 2,600 members are travel and tourism organizations and suppliers of bus products and services who work in partnership with the North American motorcoach industry.
