FMCSA to Accept Official Mexican Standard as Comparable to the CVSA Based Inspection

FMCSA published a notice on March 16 announcing that they will begin accepting the Norma Oficial Mexicana ((NOM) or Official Mexican Standard) as a comparable periodic inspection to the CVSA based inspection. FMCSA's acceptance of NOM 68 means that Mexico-domiciled motor carriers operating in the United States must ensure that their CMVs are inspected annually as required by the Secretaría de Comunicaciones y Transportes (SCT). Mexican carriers will still have to retain a copy of the inspection report and a sticker/decal must be affixed to the vehicle in order to satisfy the periodic inspection requirements in the United States. This action is effective immediately and they will honor all stickers issued on or after October 1, 2015.
