Name: Harold W. Lewis, Jr.
Company: Lewis Coaches, Inc.
City: New Orleans
Years in the industry: 30

How did you first get involved in the industry?

I represent the third generation of the Lewis family to operate Lewis Coaches, Inc. I have served in numerous capacities with the company since I was 18 years old. I assumed my current position as general manager upon completion of college in May 1997.

Who has inspired your career?

My career in this industry has been inspired by two great men. The first is my grandfather, Earl Lewis, Sr. He founded Lewis Coaches, Inc. in 1960 and is responsible for laying the foundation of the company. My second inspiration is my namesake, my father Harold W. Lewis, Sr. He currently is the president of the company and has taught me everything that I know.

What has been the greatest challenge/opportunity in your career?

The greatest challenge in my career has been the evolving technology of our industry’s vehicles. Emissions and elogs have all been a learning experience. My biggest opportunity is serving the customers of our industry. Their safety and their happiness have been the keys to the success of our business.

What advice would you give to others about working in this industry?

My advice to anyone in this industry is to respect it, learn it and love it.

Why is it important for you to belong to the African American Motorcoach Council?

The African American Motorcoach Council gives a voice to minority owned operators.
