Name: Sandie Marquis
Company: Budget Truck and Auto
City, State: Budget is out of Janesville, Wis. but I live in Cumming, Ga.
Years in the Industry: 18.5 years
How did you first get involved in the industry?
I worked for a company in another industry in Quebec that closed so I was looking for a customer service position and my cousin was working for a company who was seeking to hire a bilingual salesperson for the bus industry. I interviewed and was hired by that graphics company.
Who has inspired your career?
My customers! I love what I do because I want to help my customers look their best!
What has been the greatest challenge/opportunity in your career?
Balancing the home/work life as a working Mom and living in Quebec with a large percentage of my business being in the US. Now that I’m living in the US for a US-based company, which has been a great opportunity, the challenge is my family living in Canada, so the challenges and opportunities continue.
What advice would you give to others about working in this industry?
Listen to what your customer / partners need. Take the time to get to know them. This industry is a very personal one. I’m lucky to know the families of a lot of my customers who have become friends and I like it that way. My motto has always been "Love what you do and you will never work a day in your life!"
Why is it important for you to belong to Women in Buses Council?
Some of the top people in our industry are women and many of them are true leaders. It’s wonderful to work alongside of them to see what motivates them and to learn from them. Of course, meeting and making new friends is always a plus as well.
