TSA Conference Call: Enhancing Surface Transportation

Conference Call | Feb. 28 | 2:30 - 3:00 p.m, ET

Motorcoach operators face a variety of security risks daily because of our precious cargo, flexible operational profiles and diverse operating environments. Given all that is happening in the world related to the Russian invasion of the Ukraine, a new credible security risk has emerged as a result of the conflict and cybersecurity awareness is of utmost importance.

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), in partnership with the U.K. National Cyber Security Centre, FBI, and NSA, published an advisory to alert organizations of new malware, Cyclops Blink, used by Sandworm or Voodoo Bear to target network devices. The Sandworm has previously been attributed to the Russian GRU’s Main Centre for Special Technologies.

Cyclops Blink persists on reboot and throughout the legitimate firmware update process. To remove the malware organizations should refer to vendor, WatchGuard, guidance. Device owners should follow each step in these instructions to ensure that devices are patched to the latest version and that any infection is removed.

Also, we also urge you to take steps to get prepared in advance of an attack on your essential systems or systems that you frequently interact with outside of your organization. Follow these easy tips to prepare:

1. Fix known security flaws in software.

2. Implement multifactor authentication.

3. Take steps to halt bad practices, including the use of end-of-life software products and systems that relay on known/default/unchangeable passwords.

4. Sign up for CISA’s Cyber Hygiene Vulnerability Scanning service.
