Leadership Positions & Responsibilities | American Bus Association

  • Each position is a two-year term.
  • The Vice Chair will move into the Chair position after their 2 year Vice Chairmanship.
  • The Leadership Team meets via web conference bi-monthly and onsite at ABA’s Marketplace.
  • Leadership Team members will host webinars on Zoom and/or GoToWebinar platforms.
  • Additional individual position responsibilities are listed below.

  • Set the agenda, create the full events calendar and chair all Women in Buses Council meetings and events;
  • Participate in the Leadership Team selection process and manage selected Leadership Team including agendas, meetings & retreats and train to ensure seamless transition;
  • Define and communicate the goals, roles and expectations of ABA and the Women in Buses Council to the Council members;
  • Monitor committee activity progress to ensure that the mission and responsibilities are fully achieved;
  • Serve as spokesperson, supporting and promoting the Council program and features to the Board of Directors and any group identified by ABA;
  • Serve as the main point of contact between Women in Buses and the American Bus Association;
  • Manage presenters and provide leadership role for WIB Wednesdays, Quarterly Webinar Series and Monthly e-Newsletter content;
  • Provide Women in Buses report for all ABA Board Meetings;
  • Cultivate relationships with WIB Sponsors;
  • Work with membership committee to target potential WIB members;
  • Maintain a proactive, visible and participatory role in the Council including public speaking and appearance obligations at Council events;
  • Monitor committee activity progress to ensure that the mission and responsibilities are fully achieved.

Term: Two Years

  • Create and plan Women in Buses Day;
  • Assist in recruitment efforts for future Leadership Team membership;
  • Provide any historic recommendations and documentation to incoming Chair;
  • Serve as spokesperson, supporting and promoting the Council program and features to any group identified by Chair and ABA;
  • Fulfill any additional requirements and appearances as deemed by ABA or the Chair to ensure the success of this Council.

Term: Two Years

  • Participate in the development of benefits and features of the Council to provide tangible value to the members to expand membership;
  • Develop member relations to identify potential new council members;
  • Work with ABA to maintain records of membership of the Council;
  • Create calendar of membership events and timeline;
  • Manage booth at Marketplace including staffing;
  • Create membership documents including welcome letter, benefits packet and updates in e-newsletter;
  • Manage communications requests to members;
  • Manage the leadership nomination process;
  • Provide requested details for designated weeks for social media per the social media calendar;
  • Participate in the development of house ads for promotion of Council membership and activities;
  • Create marketing calendar;
  • Create and manage media communication timeline with ABA Communications staff;
  • Work with ABA on Council story placement within ABA publications;
  • Create copy for Council website;
  • Manage Council social media communication timeline and content;
  • Manage e-newsletter timeline and content;
  • Manage WIB activities timeline and content including WIB Webinar Series, WIB Wednesdays, WIB Lunch & Learn and Book  Club;
  • Create Women in Buses Day marketing plan;
  • Suggest Marketplace booth giveaways, promos and awards;
  • Serve as spokesperson, supporting and promoting the Council program and features to any group identified by Chair and ABA;
  • Fulfill any additional requirements and appearances as deemed by ABA or the Chair to ensure the success of this Council.

Term: Two Years

  • Set the timeline of events including the agenda, speaker & content and chair all committee meetings/webinars;
  • Lead committee activity progress to ensure that the mission and responsibilities are fully achieved;
  • Identify educational needs of committee and work with ABA to schedule educational sessions;
  • Provide requested details for designated weeks for social media per the social media calendar;
  • Provide a segment for the monthly WIB e-newsletter;
  • Identify opportunities for advocacy and government affairs partnerships with ABA GAP Team;
  • Develop any resources deemed useful by committee in achieving the goals;
  • Provide updates for the e-newsletter for Council members;
  • Develop a mentorship program for future women bus executives;
  • Serve as spokesperson, supporting and promoting the Council program and features to any group identified by Chair and ABA;
  • Fulfill any additional requirements and appearances as deemed by ABA or the Chair to ensure the success of this Council.

Term: Two Years

  • Set the timeline of events including the agenda, speaker & content and chair all committee meetings/webinars;
  • Lead committee activity progress to ensure that the mission and responsibilities are fully achieved;
  • Identify educational needs of committee and work with ABA to schedule educational sessions;
  • Develop any resources deemed useful by committee in achieving the goals including best practices for the safety & security of the motorcoach fleet;
  • Develop a network of resources for equipment breakdowns, driver needs, etc.
  • Provide requested details for designated weeks for social media per the social media calendar;
  • Provide a segment for the monthly WIB e-newsletter;
  • Develop any resources deemed useful by committee in achieving the goals;
  • Identify opportunities to incorporate driver engagement;
  • Provide opportunity to highlight CDL process;
  • Communicate with the Chairman of Bus Industry Safety Council (BISC) and Bus Maintenance & Repair Council (BusMARC) to ensure enhancement and not duplication of content;
  • Serve as spokesperson, supporting and promoting the Council program and features to any group identified by Chair and ABA;
  • Fulfill any additional requirements and appearances as deemed by ABA or the Chair to ensure the success of this Council.

  • Develop a mentoring program for group travel professionals (tour operators and suppliers);
  • Serve as spokesperson, supporting and promoting the Council program and features to any group identified by Chair and ABA;
  • Fulfill any additional requirements and appearances as deemed by ABA or the Chair to ensure the success of this Council.

Term: Two Years

  • Serve as spokesperson, supporting and promoting the Council program and features to any group identified by Chair and ABA;
  • Serves as liaison between the title sponsor and WIB Council.

The American Bus Association serves a thriving industry that provides nearly 600 million passenger trips annually on charters, tours, scheduled service, and shuttles. Membership in ABA includes motorcoach operators, tour operators, tourism-related organizations, and products and service suppliers.
